If someone says that decaf coffee is like non-alcoholic beer, then they are undoubtedly right: the taste is almost the same, but the drink has practically no effect on the body. It is literally created for those who love the delicate and refined taste of coffee, but at the same time do not need the tonic effect of caffeine, or are simply experiencing health problems, and caffeine is prohibited for him.
I’m sure by now you would like to know when decaf coffee was born.
Decaffeinated coffee appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. At this time, all freight transport was carried out between the continents through sea routes. The renowned German merchant L. Rosemus was among the sailors who sold coffee. Once, when the captain was driving his ship with the goods home, the ship was caught in a violent storm. Fortunately, both the captain and his crew survived, but the ship was badly treated and the cargo was irreparably damaged: all the coffee bean holds were flooded with water. If it weren’t for the well-known economy of the Germans, then, perhaps even today we don’t know what decaffeinated coffee is. But L. Rosemus found a way out. However, undaunted, he decided to rinse the beans with seawater, dry and roast the coffee, and then see what came out of it. When the long and laborious process was finally completed, it turned out that the resulting coffee wasn’t too bad. All its difference from the usual drink was that it did not have the usual stimulating effect, otherwise the coffee did not differ from the usual aromatic drink.
Thus, 1903 was the year of decaffeinated coffee. Although some clarification is necessary here, decaffeinated coffee is not a completely correct formulation as caffeine is still in this drink. It is true that its content is much less. Thanks to the decofening procedure, the caffeine level is reduced to 10-20 mg per cup. This amount is 20 to 30 times less than in normal coffee. Decaffeinated coffee, due to the absence of the main potent pathogen, can be safely drunk even by children, as well as by elderly drinkers or people who are dieting due to health problems.
