grassthis phase of special importance. One of the main problems in the construction of lawns is in fact the appearance of weeds. The importance of eliminating these herbs from the beginning is fundamental, not only for the aesthetic aspect, but above all because of a competition factor that would arise between good and bad weeds, in search of water, light, mineral salts and living space. In order to carry out a successful weeding, the weeds must first be watered, to allow them a vegetative restart. This is to allow the weed, which will be distributed, to penetrate to the roots, thus improving their effectiveness. It is preferable to use total herbicides (which kill all plants) with systemic action (which penetrate the interior of the plant). The most widely used are based on glyphosate salts, readily available on the market. We will pay particular attention to the distribution of the product, as this could also lead to the death of shrubs and plants mistakenly sprayed with herbicide.

After taking care of the unwanted plants, we proceed to the formation of the seedbed. The structure of the soil is very important (we take into account that the grass that we are going to sow will have to remain there for several years). To determine if our soil has a good structural level we will have to check its drainage (you have a good structure when you reach the right proportion between air and water present in the soil). One of the most used measures to improve the composition of the substrate is to add organic substance. If we use manure, make sure it is sterilized, otherwise it could contain weeds that could germinate and infest the lawn. Other remedies are mixed with sand or pumice stone to help drain the water. After improving the structure, we will add mineral salts to promote growth during the first months. There are many lawn fertilizers on the market that must be distributed at the rate of 40-60 grams per square meter. When choosing the fertilizer, favor those with a high potassium content that will facilitate the germination of the seeds. Prepare the soil by digging or tilling. With the help of a rake, level the ground evenly, trying to remove the various dunes and depressions in the ground. Roll with a very heavy roller to first settle the soil and then, again with the help of the rake, carry out the leveling operation again.

Once the soil has been prepared and the type of seed that best suits our needs has been chosen, we will first sow vertically and then horizontally, paying special attention to uniform distribution. Sowing should be done at 1 kilogram every 20-30 meters depending on the type and purity of the seed.

Once sown we will bury lightly with the rake and we will pass with the roller. After sowing, the lawn should be watered every day for a few minutes, thus avoiding the phenomena of seed runoff and floating, which could cause piles of seeds in some places and rarity in others. Therefore, it is very important to always keep the soil moist until the grass appears.
